Dog BreedsAbout Working Dogs

Working Dogs
Working dogs are bred to help ranchers to perform jobs such as herding, guarding animals & property, pulling sleds, performing water rescues, etc. They have been invaluable assets since the dawn of mankind. They are very intelligent, quick learners, and strong.

There is a long list of way that working dogs are useful to people such as service dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs, even cancer-detecting dogs.

However, Livestock Of The world is focused on working dogs that assist ranchers is the following ways:
  • Herding Dog. Herding dogs are invaluable to sheep and cattle ranchers for gathering animals. Different breeds are used for the different jobs involved in stock work. A well-trained dog can adapt to control any sort of domestic animal.
  • Guard Dogs. Guard dogs, or watch dogs, help to protect property from animal and human intruders.
  • Hunting Dogs. Hunting dogs help hunters in finding, tracking, and retrieving game, or in scaring rodents. For larger game animals such as wild boar or bears, dogs may be trained to either hold the prey at bay until the hunter arrives, or to directly attack and hold them.
