Huacaya alpacas have dense, crimped, woolly, water-resistant fleece, have a fluffy look,and stands perpendicular to their body, much like sheep. Fiber quality is generally determined by its fineness, density, crimp (waviness), and consistency. Most of the alpacas on the planet (about 85%) are Huacayas.
