About Red Engadine SheepAbout Red Engadine Sheep

Red Engadine sheep originated inrnSwitzerland in Lower Engadin and in the bordering Tirolian and Bavarianrnvalleys. They originate from local varieties, from the Stone Sheep, and thernBergamask sheep. They are medium to large framed and are distinguished by theirrnram nose and their long, hanging ears.rnrn

rnrnThey have a dark-brown body and arnred-brown, medium to coarse wool which with increasing age becomes lighter.rnThey are an easy-care sheep, well suited to extensive production situations. Inrnthe 1980's, the breed was almost extinct in Switzerland, but conservationrnefforts reversed the trend and in 1992, the Swiss Engadine Sheep Breeders Clubrnwas formed.
