About Taihu PigsAbout Taihu Pigs

Taihu Pigs, native to the serene landscapes surrounding the Taihu Lake region in the lower Yangtze River Valley of China, boast a distinct set of characteristics that set them apart. These large, ebony-colored pigs feature a prominently wrinkled face, adding to their unique appearance. With a broad forehead and generously folded ears, they possess a commanding presence.

Renowned for their robust reproductive capabilities, Taihu strains often produce litters ranging up to an impressive twenty piglets, with an average of fourteen live offspring. This remarkable fertility, coupled with their resilience against diseases, has sparked considerable interest in these pigs for research purposes, particularly in breeding and genetic engineering studies.

The influence of Taihu Pigs has extended beyond their native land, with established populations found in various countries including France, Albania, Hungary, Japan, the UK, and the US. This global presence underscores the widespread recognition of their valuable genetic traits and adaptability across diverse environments.
