Mehraban sheep are from the western province of Hamadan, in Iran; where they are the predominant breed. They are raised primarily for meat production. There is approximately 3 million heads.  

They are known for multiple births, fertility, and a high survival rate from birth to weaning. Their wool is a light brown carpet wool quality which was favored in Persian carpets.
