Sopravissana sheep, primarily located in the Central Apennines and Latium of central Italy, are renowned for their fine to medium white wool and are raised for both milk and meat production. This breed traces its origins back to the 18th and early 19th centuries when it was developed through crossbreeding of Vissana sheep with Spanish Merino and Rambouillet breeds. Further enhancements to the breed occurred during the early 20th century with the introduction of American and Australian Merinos.
Sopravissana rams are typically horned, while the females are polled, contributing to the distinctive characteristics of the breed.
