East Anatolian Red Cattle (also known as EARC or Dogu Anadolu Kirmizisi) represent 10.02% of the cattle population of a region with 1,243,482 animals (Emsen, 1993). EARC are well suited to the harsh climate, poor pasture and severe conditions that are the characteristics of the hills and uplands of East Anatolia which is 1300-2000m above sea level with an average winter temperature of -15oC and annual rainfall of 350-400 mm. Eastern Finncattle (Finnish: itäsuomenkarja or kyyttö]) are from eastern Finland. They are a dual-purpose breed, used in dairy and beef production. Eastern Finncattle cows produce approximately 4100 kg of milk per lactation, with about 4.4% fat and 3.5% protein. Enderby Island Cattle are wild cattle from Enderby Island, New Zealand. Only about seven specimens remain today, (on mainland New Zealand), after a rescue expedition by the Rare Breeds Conservation Society of New Zealand (RBCSNZ), and a culling program to protect the native flora and fauna of Enderby Island. There have since been intensive efforts at breeding the cattle, involving both in vitro fertilization and cloning, and there is an ongoing program to perpetuate the breed in captivity. English Longhorn (also known as Longhorn, Dishley,
Lancashire, Leicestershire, and Warwickshire ) cattle are raised for meat, milk
and used to be employed as a draught animal. As the name suggests, the breed
has long horn and originated from Craven, in the north of England. They were first
breed and later improved by Robert Bakewell of Leicestershire, England in the mid-1700s.
Bakewell pioneered the use of inbreeding technique in cattle selection. And he
selected the English Longhorn cattle breed for quick growth and heavy
hindquarters of these animals. Selection efforts of Bakewell led the breed to
become the most widely used animals throughout England and Ireland until it was
surpasses by the Shorthorn cattle in the early 1800s.

Evolene are dairy cattle raised mainly from the Valais
