Sarda Goats are from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, off the west coast of central Italy. They are raisedrnthroughout the island, particularly in the provinces of Cagliari and Nuoro. They arernanrnancient breed that has been influenced by theMalteserngoat.

rnrnSarda Goats are of mediumrnbuild, long-necked, and deep-chested. The does have well-developed udders. Thernbreed is particularly hardy and well-suited to being raised in a wild orrnsemi-wild state in tough conditions.

rnrnSarda Goats are one of therneight autochthonous Italian goat breeds for which a genealogical herdbook isrnkept by theAssociazionernNazionale della Pastorizia, the Italian nationalrnassociation of sheep- and goat-breeders. The herdbookrnwas established in 1981.In 1998 the total population of sarda Goats was 260,000, ofrnwhich 6577 were registered in the herdbook; at thernend of 2013 the registered population was increased to 11,121.
